‘Jane Eyre’, a novel by Charlotte Bronte, first published by Smith Elder & Co., London in 1847, continues to enthral readers even today, for its profound wisdom and magic weave of words.   

 

The book can serve the quest of every kind of reader from the romantic to the spiritual, with its deep, almost precocious understanding of human emotions and the genius of its expression.

 

Jane Eyre is a first person account of an English orphan child’s journey through five stages (1) Her harsh treatment at Gateshead by her aunt and cousins (2) Her education at Lowood school.  (3) As governess at Thornfield Hall where she  falls in love with her master Rochester  (4) With the Rivers family at Moor House where her  cousin St.Johns Rivers proposes to her(5) Her reunion with her beloved Rochester and their subsequent marriage.

 

The book is divided into 38 chapters and consists of over 450 pages.
